History Quick Start Guide
1. Article Literature
Articles relating to History can be found most easily in Academic Search Premier, Academic OneFile and OmniFile Full-Text Select. Starting your article search in either of these databases will usually yield the best results. However, if you still can't find the right article, click on the Articles Tab to find more places to search. Electronic access to Pacific Historical Review is through JSTOR that is the only journal we get through JSTOR.
2. Background Information
Background information can be found using Gale Virtual Reference Library, and this is typically the best place to start your reference search. There are also a lot of historical reference books that can be found in the library's catalog. To do biblical research online use the Oxford Biblical Studies Online platform whcih includes 6 versions of the Bible, concordances, a one-volume commentary, Bible atlas, and a 5,000 entry biblical encyclopedia.
3. Statistical Information
A good place to look for historical statistical information is the US Census Bureau and Library of Congress Global Gateway. To expand your search, click on the Websites Tab. Once there, you will find many links to websites containing relevant data and statistics.
4. Streaming Online Videos
We subscribe to two databases of streaming online educational videos. Both include videos on history including March of Time (on Academic Video Online Premier) and historical newsreel footage (Films on Demand). Academic Video Online Premier and Films on Demand.
